Brom, Hard Bark

February 2008

Painting time: about 30-35 hours, plus the base.

This was a commission job for a collector in Italy.

Such a pleasure to paint another of Raul Latorre's miniatures from Enigma - the msaterful sculpting makes the painting easy, it just flows freely with very little effort.

I wanted to stay quite close to the original background of Brom for the colour scheme, so like Raul's official version, I stuck with natural tones, just using different browns and greys for all the equipment. I tried to break it up by adding some flashes of brighter colour, such as the turquoise, and the strong red tones of the flesh to make the face draw attention by really standing out from the surrounds. I also pushed the contrast on a lot of surfaces, again to try to create more of an impact despite the neutral colour tones.

I felt like something a bit more simple than usual would work well for the base; the mini has so much detail, so I thought that a more flat base would contrast well with the details and show off the mini.
