Female Dwarf

About 20 hours

This was a mini I painted as a gift for a friend in Italy - he and hid girlfriend love dwarves! As it happens, it was also the first Reaper mini I have ever painted - I'll have to paint some more one day soon.

I wanted to try something a bit more colourful than normal, both for a change and to give her a little more of a feminine aspect - but I also wanted to maintain the earthy, ruddiness of the dwarves. So I took a leaf out of rusto's book and tried the sort of turquoise and pink combination on her dress, contrasted by mainly earth tones for everything else.

I painted all the leather parts quite dark, and I wanted her gloves to look quite heavy and strong, because I imagined her as a blacksmith - she has all the metal-working tools hanging from her belt, plus she is wearing an apron and carrying two hammers - and of course she is a dwarf! What more evidence is needed? :)

I also conducted a little experiment with the metallics, aiming for a bronze colour, by mixing some brown tones in with the metallic paint. I also used some pinkish-brown glazes over the metals to emphasise the bronze colour.
