Iron Warriors Commander

This mini was a commission job. The client wanted an Iron Warriors lord based on the techmarine mini. A lot of the specific components used and the design of some of the additions, as well as parts of the painting such as the designs and placement of the freehand symbols, black and yellow warning stripes etc. was decided by the client.

Painting so much metal was a daunting task, and the trick was to try to get lots of different colours in different areas, and a sort of rusty texture to try to make the mini interesting. At first, the metal was painted in the usual way, with a base coat of GW boltgun metal, shaded with a series of thin glazes using different mixes of GW bestial brown, GW dark flesh, VMC hull red, dark purples, blue and black. Then I used artists soft pastels (like pigments) to add extra colours; using the pigments also creates a different texture to paints, which is also a benefit.

The main structure of the base was a resin base sent by the client, although I added the top step with the drain pipes, for fun, and some more colour.
